Linda C. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Application
Our Scholarship Purpose
The Linda C. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Committee will issue one $1000 scholarship every year to a graduating student of Princeton Senior High School that desires to further their education in the field(s) of music, music education or education. The purpose of this scholarship is to:
- Recognize the contributions of graduating senior students to Princeton Senior High School.
- Reward the achievements of graduating senior students while at Princeton Senior High School.
- Provide financial support for the selected student as they continue their education in the field of Music or Education.
- This scholarship will take into account the student’s Choir/Band participation, academic merit and recommendation. This is not a financial needs-based scholarship.
Scholarship Criteria
- Applicants must be a current student of the Senior Class at Princeton Senior High School.
- Applicants must plan to pursue a degree in Music, Music Education or Education to be considered.
- Participation in the Princeton Senior High School Choir or Band Program for all four years of high school is preferred but not required.
- Applicants must have a GPA of at least 2.5
- Applicants should be those who have shown outstanding qualities of character and dedication as a student while attending PSHS.
- Participation in community choral and/or instrumental groups (i.e., church, community choirs, orchestras, etc.) preferred.
- A copy of a signed acceptance letter from an institution and specific degree program to demonstrate intent to attend an institution of higher learning.
- All must be submitted by the deadline listed in the application. Late or incomplete application packets will not be considered.
Selection Criteria
- The scholarship will be based on the student’s achievement and participation in music, character, essays and recommendations.
- The scholarship recipient will be determined by the Linda C. Hawkins Memorial Scholarship Executive Board.
- The announcement of the scholarship award winner will be made at the annual PSHS Senior Awards Night.
Essays, Letters of Reference and Additional Requirements
(Music/Music Education Majors Only)
- Describe one of your most rewarding musical experiences as a student at PSHS and elaborate on how/why it was significant to you. (Essay length–approximately 500 words)
- If you could see into the future, how do you think music will be a part of your life in five or ten years? (Essay length–approximately 500 words)
- Provide one letter of reference from a member of the Princeton Senior High School faculty outside of the Music Department who knows of your interest in music.
- Provide one letter of reference from the PSHS Choir/Band Director or someone outside of the PSHS Music Department who knows of your interest in music. (Private teachers, Church Music Directors, etc.)
Essays, Letters of Reference and Additional Requirements
(Education Majors Only)
- Describe an experience as a student at PSHS that motivated you to pursuing a career in education and elaborate on how/why it was significant to you. (Essay length–approximately 500 words)
- If you could see into the future, how do you think you will have an impact in education in five or ten years? (Essay length–approximately 500 words)
- Provide one letter of reference from a member of the Princeton Senior High School faculty who knows of your interest in education.
Provide one letter of reference from someone that is of no relation to the applicant outside of PSHS who knows of your interest in education. (Teachers, Mentors, etc.)
