Scholarships
The Board of Directors of the Community Foundation met in May, 2023. It approved 150 scholarship recommendations for 81 recipients totaling $419,000 in awards from the Scholarship Committee.
These students are graduating seniors at high schools in Mercer, McDowell, and Fayette counties in West Virginia, and Tazewell County, Virginia, or are college students who have been awarded a scholarship on a continuing basis.
The awards came from 51 individual scholarship funds and benefit students from local high schools, as well as several existing college students who qualified for awards to continue their education. The scholarships help students attending a large number of colleges and universities.
Scholarship recipients are chosen through a competitive application process by the Scholarship Committee. Members of the Committee are Tom Chaffins, Chairman; Gene Bailey, Deborah Garton, Lisa Lineberry, Cathy Corte Payne, Peter Taylor, and Cathy Zimmerman.
